Promotion Description: The KNOW 2019 Startup Pitch Competition (the “Competition) is a skill-based contest to take place from Wednesday, November 21, 2018 to Thursday, January 24, 2019 (the “Entry Period”). All Competition applicants must fill out the online form describing their business along with a (2) two-minute video. Entry must reflect the judging criteria and adhere to the entry requirements as defined below. Participation is free of charge. The Competition will include a round of judging to determine ten (10) Finalist businesses who will advance to pitch at the KNOW Conference 2019 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday, March 26th, 2019.
By participating in the KNOW 2019 Startup Pitch Competition, each business accepts and agrees to comply with, and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of OWI.
ELIGIBILITY: The Competition is open to startup organizations that have received under $3 million in total funding and are less than (3) three years old, at the time of the Competition. By entering the Competition, each applicant (“Participant”) acknowledges and agrees that his/her participation in the Competition may be subject to, or prohibited or restricted by, his/her employer’s policies and regulations and that the Participant is solely responsible for review of, and compliance with, any such policies or regulations of his/her employer. The Competition is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
TIMING: The Competition begins at 12:00:01 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Finalists will be announced by Friday, February 15, 2019. The Entry Period, Finalist Determination Period, and Winner Determination Period are defined in the chart below.
HOW TO APPLY: During the “Entry Period,” complete all instructions on the Competition Entry Form and upload your video submission as a YouTube or Vimeo link1. Once an Entry is submitted, it cannot be modified by a Participant. OWI is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, or undelivered Competition Entries. No incomplete submissions will be accepted.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: By participating in the Competition and accepting these Official Rules, each Participant agrees that:
By submitting an Entry, the Participant understands and grants to OWI an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use his/her Entry on OWI’s various websites and social media sites, and in advertising and/or promotional activities worldwide without compensation, permission, or notification. OWI reserves the right in their absolute discretion to alter, change or modify any Entry.
By submitting an Entry, Participant warrants and represents that: (a) Entry does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other legal or moral rights of any person or entity; (b) Participant owns all rights to the Entry, including without limitation, copyrights; and (c) Participant will indemnify and hold harmless OWI and related entities, agents and assignees from any claims and damages (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from or relating to the breach or alleged breach of your representations and warranties herein, the Entry, or Participant’s conduct in creating the Entry, the acceptance or use of any prize or otherwise in connection with this Competition.
COMPETITION ENTRIES ARE THE VIEWS/OPINIONS OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANT AND DO NOT REFLECT THE VIEWS OF OWI OR ANY AFFILIATED SPONSOR IN ANY MANNER.
FINALIST ACCEPTANCE: Potential finalists will be contacted by the Administrator by email on/around February 15, 2019 to present the Finalist business’ Entry in a live presentation at the KNOW 2019 Startup Pitch Competition Final Presentation (the “Finalist Presentation”). Each Finalist must designate up to two (2) employees who will participate in the Finalist Presentation (each, a “Business Representative”).
During the Competition, which takes place on Tuesday, October 26, 2019 at a time to be determined by OWI, each Finalist will pitch their product/service for three (3) minutes. Following the presentation, Finalists will answer questions from panelists/judges for three (3) minutes. The pitch and question/answer session may be recorded. Video and photo assets from the Finalist Presentation will remain the intellectual property of OWI.
All Finalist Presentations will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by OWI. Judging will be based on criteria set forth at the KNOW 2019 Conference to determine the winner(s).
OWI reserves the right to cancel the Competition or event at any time during the term and will provide notice as soon as is reasonably practicable. This agreement is personal to the Participant and if for any reason, you are unable to participate in the Competition, you agree to immediately notify OWI in writing. OWI is not obliged to accept replacement Participants.
WINNER NOTIFICATION: The Competition Winner will be notified on or about Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the KNOW 2019 Conference. Prize winners will be awarded within 4-6 weeks.

All travel related expenses, including but not limited to, flights, ground transportation, taxes, gratuities, incidentals, upgrades, insurance, service charges, hotel, resort or property fees, food & beverage and personal expenses are the sole responsibility of all participants.

Winner is responsible for all federal, state, local and income taxes associated with winning prize. Grand Prize and Finalist Package winners will be required to furnish the business’s Tax Identification Number for the sole purpose of preparation of tax forms as required by law.
GENERAL: Participants agree to these Official Rules and the decisions of OWI, and release and hold OWI, any affiliated sponsors, and all other businesses involved in this Competition, as well as the employees, officers, directors and agents of each (the “Released Parties”), from all claims and liability relating to their participation in the Competition, and the acceptance and use/misuse of the prize offered. Participants waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages. Finalists/Winners assume all liability for any injury or damage caused or claimed to be caused, by participation in this Competition or use/misuse or redemption of a prize. OWI is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the Competition or in the announcement of any prize.
No confidential relationship is established by any Competition Participant and OWI as a result of participating. None of the information submitted by the Participant will be treated as trade secrets, confidential information or as protected data.
By participating in the Competition, you (i) agree to be bound by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements, and (ii) agree to be bound by the decisions of OWI, which are final and binding in all matters relating to the Competition. Failure to comply with these Official Rules may result in disqualification from the Competition. OWI reserves the right to: (i) permanently disqualify from any Competition it sponsors any person it believes has intentionally violated these Official Rules; and (ii) withdraw any method of entry if it becomes technically corrupted (including if a computer virus or system malfunction inalterably impairs its ability to conduct the Competition). If, for any reason, the Competition is not capable of being conducted as planned, including but not limited to infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or other causes whether or not beyond the control of OWI, OWI reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition. OWI is not responsible if the Competition cannot be implemented or prizes cannot be awarded due to delays or interruptions due to acts of God, acts of war, strikes, governmental action, natural disasters, weather or acts of terrorism. OWI also reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual or Participant found to be violating these Official Rules or suspected of attempting to disrupt or defraud the entry process or the operation of the Competition. OWI reserves the right to disqualify any Participant at any time during the Competition Period that may be found ineligible.
